WEXFORD, Pa. – Bethany College senior Jay Lyonett (Weirton, W.Va./Brooke) was chosen as the PAC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for March 15 by the conference office.
Less than 48 hours after completing the basketball season in the ECAC semifinals Saturday, March 6, Lyonett was on the tennis court against Franciscan on Monday, March 8. In his match at #4 singles, his 6-2, 6-3 victory was the clinching win in the Bison’s 6-3 triumph over the Barons, which snapped a 21-match losing streak for BC dating back to April, 2007.
Two days later in a match at Saint Vincent, Lyonett accounted for both of Bethany’s wins in a 7-2 defeat to the Bearcats. He teamed with junior Dustin Opalka (Cortland, Ohio/Lakeview) for a 9-8 decision at #2 doubles. He then improved to 2-0 in singles play with another straight set win (6-3, 6-2).
A communication major, Jay is the son of John and Barbara Lyonett of Weirton, W.Va.
