BETHANY – Senior Jay Lyonett (Weirton, W.Va./Brooke) posted doubles and singles victories, but the Bethany College men’s tennis team lost in their final home match of the season by a 6-3 count against Washington & Jefferson Thursday.
The Bison fell behind 2-1 after doubles play, with the only triumph coming from Lyonett and junior Dustin Opalka (Cortland, Ohio/Lakeview) at #2 with a convincing 8-1 decision.
A straight-set win by Lyonett was the main BC highlight in singles action. He improved to 7-2 for the year with a 6-1, 6-4 win over W&J’s Eric Sillard. The other Bethany win came from sophomore Ryan Rokisky (Weirton, W.Va./Weirton Madonna), who won his second PAC match of the season with a 6-1, 6-3victory at #5.
The Bison will close out the regular season next week with two road matches, including a contest at Franciscan Tuesday and at Marietta Thursday.
