Athens is a a good team. The QB is talented and smart...#2 is a player as well. And they are GOOD at what they do. Leave a safety high and you're going to get bubbled, and Now routed to death. Press Up...here come the verticals and wheels. I saw a lot of inferior talent getting lost in coverage...resulting in a lot of guys in Green in Gold running wide open.
However, they have some MAJOR suspects up front. I'm thinking constant, creative pressure. Getting the safeties involved...things like that. Big Red usually has the athletes to exploit those edges. I haven't gotten the opportunity to see them play this year, but, if they have their prototypical physical, aggressive corners...I think they'll be okay.
One thing about Reno and his staff, is that there are none better at exploiting personnel match-ups. I think that Big Red will be able to control the ball offensively. I don't know enough about either team to predict a score but, I do think that it will be a lot lower scoring and closer than people think.

Jackson will win the SEOAL. Athens beat them 49-0 last year

Can you imagine how badly Big Red would blast most of these teams?

I say that Athens has no idea what they are walking into with this one.

        Bulldogs-- 21
        Big Red-- 35

I can't seem to be able to register on the SEOL site. It's obvious Athens people are voting on here for their team. We are blocked to join their site .

I agree, but, it would be a different kind of domination. Big Red just has never been designed to put up video game numbers. Even during their back-to-back title runs, High-30's was a big offensive night. Save for a 60+ spot hung up on Park.

I don't know how Athens does when they are up by 50 but Reno would have everybody playing and gaining playing time. One thing for sure is Athens has to be fresh and injury free. that is a plus for them . This week we will see if they are conditioned to play 4 quarters of tough football. We know we will be .

When I talked about Athens QB a few weeks ago, being compared to Gardner, from Inkster Mi(who is now playing at U of M), I was told I was crazy or didn't know what I was talking about.
BR needs to control the clock & keep Athens Offense off the field. The RB reminds me of the kid from Urusline, from a few years ago. He's not that big, but he moves on a dime, and avoids contact. Ones of those scat back type of RB's.
With rain in the forecast, I still think there will be a big crowd for this game.

Seems like a lot of tension building up for this one. We should get one of those WHACKY mayoral bets going between the two towns...just to keep it light....How about DiCarlo's Pizza vs. Burrito Buggy....A friendly bit of advice to Athens residents, just don't let Steuby's Mayor drive the Burrito Buggy.

The pick is Big Red. Athens ran from a big school league ( SEOAL) because they got beat annually with embarrassing games in futile efforts to join a league of smaller schools (TVC) where they could win games against inferior competition. Along comes a talented QB and some better players than they are used to having and suddenly -- the locals think they are great and the next state champs. Big Red is pretty average this year and will be a handful for Athens. Looks to be a wet night. Death Valley will be rocking !! lol
