Footballfan - 100% correct re points to be had by playing Linsly. Thanks for throwing that out there. Linsly is no different to an Ohio school than any other school outside of Ohio. None are OHSAA members. By the way, looking forward to Linsly v Ferry next season. That's always an uphill battle for Linsly and I'm sure it will be again next year but it's also always a fun game to see. I think Linsly appreciates the opportunity to have a chance to compete.
Tigerfan - 100% correct re Linsly hasn't beat Shadyside in some time. I think to be fair though it should be noted they don't play every year. I think that's creates an interesting debate. Here's where I'm going:
2013 - Linsly was 8-2 but did not have Shadyside on the schedule.
2012 - Linsly was 4-6 and Shadyside beat them 17-3.
2011 - Linsly was 10-0 but did not have Shadyside on the schedule.
2010 - Linsly was 8-2 but did not have Shadyside on the schedule.
2009 - Linsly was 6-4 and Shadyside beat them 14-12.
Would Linsly have had the same success if they played Shadyside those good years? Or did they not play because everyone knew Linsly was going to be good those years?
It would have been interesting and fun to see what would have happened if they played.

Ok FatFred, lets take a better look. Now I know scores and who did you beat are no real indicators of who would have actually won so everything is hypothetical, but since that is all there is to go on here is how I would have broken it down.
2013 - Linsly was 8-2 but did not have Shadyside on the schedule. Linsly had loses (28-21) to Wheeling Central who Shadyside beat 34-7 the other loss Linsly had was Martins Ferry. Shadyside finished the regular season 10-0, so I would conclude that Linsly would have been 7-3 if they would have played.
2012 - Linsly was 4-6 and Shadyside beat them 17-3. speaks for itself
2011 - Linsly was 10-0 but did not have Shadyside on the schedule. Linsly had one of the best teams in the valley, I doubt if Shadyside could have could have beaten Linsly this particular year.
2010 - Linsly was 8-2 but did not have Shadyside on the schedule. Linsly's 2 loses were Wheeling Central & Mogadore, - Shadyside beat both those teams that year. So realistically Linsly would have been 7-3 if they would have played
2009 - Linsly was 6-4 and Shadyside beat them 14-12. speaks for itself
2008 - Linsly was 5-4 and Shadyside beat them as 21-14 speaks for itself
2007 - Linsly was 4-6 and Shadyside beat them as 41-13 speaks for itself
2006 - Linsly was 5-5 and Shadyside beat them as 28-7 speaks for itself

Nothing against Linsly, they have a great school and good teams. However, I remember fans from Shadyside not really getting excited about Linsly on the schedule. If St. Clairsville or Martins Ferry were scheduled, that would really excite the fans. Hope the Bellaire game continues after next year - great atmosphere. Probably never happen, but, it would be great to see Shadyside schedule a team out of this area; i.e., Marion Local, Newark Catholic, etc.Tiger Pride Is On Our Side!!

It's been 64 straight years of playing and 79 years since 1921. The consecutive streak started in 1950. They will have a very hard time finding a game this late. Barnes should have done this much earlier. 2006 Shadyside could not find a game 10 due to River running away also.

Wonder if St. Johns has a week 10 game for Barnesville to pick up. Or maybe Olney Friends. Pretty bad when a school the size of Barnesville gotta drop a smaller school to be competitive. Not showing much for confidence to the up and coming athletes.YOU'RE NOT BORN A WINNER....YOU'RE NOT BORN A LOSER.....YOU ARE BORN A CHOOSER

I'm not a big believer in talking about the past. Which teams could kick the butts of todays teams and such. I believe in the current year, and the future. I will never say that SHadyside hasn't dodged a few offers to play other schools in the past. Every school does.
But lets talk about the topic here. Barnesville drops Shadyside. The exact same thing happened a few years back with River.
These bigger schools (when they have down years) want to drop the smaller school when the smaller school is having years of winning.
Here's how this happened . Barnesvilles head coach decided HE doesn't want to play Shadyside anymore. The OVAC, and the AD has no say in this. A game that has been on the schedule for decades is now gone.
So Shadyside scrambles for a tough to schedule week 10.
It's noticed Symmes Valley and Danville have an opening. Shadyside calls. The 2 of them just signed a deal.
Then it's noticed Magnolia needs a game. Shadyside calls them and tells them that the word is that Barnesville is dropping Shadyside, to keep this potential game on the back burner incase Barnesville does in fact cancel. What happens next? Magnolia calls Barnesville the next day and tries to schedule a week 10 with THEM.
I hear StC may have a week 10 open. There is no way they will schedule Shadyside this next season. Because they know they will lose.
It took Bellaire several years to agree to play. And i'll bet after they go 0-2 in this contract, you will never see this game again.
I believe all teams should leave the OVAC. What the hell do they do anyway. Besides schedule tournaments, pat themselves on the back, and cash out.
I agree that the local teams will never see a state winner because everyone is afraid to schedule the games needed to make that championship team. Steubenville is the only exception to this.
I wish Shadyside would leave the area a couple times a year and play someone to prepare them for the post season. But they won't. They'll schedule the same teams, pull the starters just after half. Go 10-0 again this year, and lose in the 2nd or 3rd round, because they haven't been tested, and the starters have only really played 5 games, because they sit the whole second half.
Where it really shows is in the stands. Even shadyside fans only really fill the seats when they know theres potential for a loss.
And even after the 10-0 season last year. Most left long before the final game was over. Didn't stay to help lift their own after their first loss.
Bottom line, Shadyside fans are used to winning in that 10 game season, they expect it now. Much like Wheeling Central fans of a few years ago.
The answer. Get out of the valley and play someone that will prepare you.

Do you really believe that Shadyside would beat St. C? Shadyside is a really good D6 school but not good enough to compete with them. I know for a fact they had a chance to schedule Harrison Central but would not so why in the world would they schedule St. C who consistently win the Buckeye 8.

The 2014 football season? Yes, I believe (if no one was injured on either team at the time) Shadyside beats StC.
And understand me. StC wouldn't schedule that game, nor would Shadyside. I'm talking as a fan. The scheduling system as it is has major flaws

Agree with imatiger - completely! Shadyside needs to follow the example of Steubenville 'Big Red' and schedule schools out of this area. Fans left most of the games before halftime because it was so one-sided and boring. First string taken out of the game mostly early in the third quarter and the bench was cleared. Did lack of playing time hurt the starters when they played Glouster-Trimble? A lot of the guys around where I sit at games were voicing their opinion as to why we continue to schedule Beallsville and Bridgeport. Football fans want competitive football. Maybe Shadyside coaching staff will break out and schedule good programs out of the Ohio Valley.Tiger Pride Is On Our Side!!
