VIENNA, W.Va. – Fifth-seeded Alderson-Broaddus used the long ball to bring West Liberty’s season to an end Thursday evening in the second round of the West Virginia Conference softball tournament at Jackson Park.
The Battlers’ Lauterbach led off the bottom of the first with a solo home run and Mereah Cooper launched a 3-run circuit blast with one out in the third to account for all of A-B’s runs.
Amy Grubic came on in relief following Cooper’s home run and blanked the Battlers on just two hits the rest of the way but the Hilltopper bats couldn’t dig their way out of the early hole.
West Liberty was able to push single runs across the plate in the third and fourth innings but were held to just five singles over the course of the game.
Kelsie Cannaday had two of the Hilltoppers’ base knocks.
The WVIAC Tournament continues through Saturday at Jackson Park.
