WHEELING, WV – The Wheeling Nailers, the ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Montreal Canadiens announced today an agreement has been reached to sell the team to a local ownership group pending ECHL approval later this week.
The Wheeling Amateur Hockey Association and the Regional Economic Development (RED) Partnership of Wheeling have agreed to purchase the team from The Brooks Family in an effort to keep the team in Wheeling.
The Wheeling Nailers have been owned and operated by Rob and Jim Brooks for the past nine seasons.
“Today is a great day for hockey, for Nailers fans, and especially for Wheeling. Rob and I couldn’t think of a better group to carry on the great 20 year tradition of excellence,” said Jim Brooks.
Rob Brooks added, “we’ve had a fun and exciting nine seasons as owners of the Nailers, and will miss seeing the many great fans and friends we have developed in that time.”
The transfer of ownership will take place following the conclusion of the 2011-12 ECHL playing season pending approval from the ECHL Board of Governors.
