MAX NOGAY.
The graduating senior at Madonna High School in Weirton just completed one of the more impressive athletic careers in recent Ohio Valley annals.
That’s quite a statement but consider Nogay’s resume as a Blue Dons athlete:
(1) In football, he was a two-way standout on a 14-0 state Class A championship team and was a two-time all-state selection.
(2) In wrestling, he was a two-time state champion.
(3) In baseball, he helped the Blue Dons capture a state Class A championship and repeated as captain of the Single-A all-state team. He will attend West Virginia University on a baseball scholarship.
Nogay receives the D.H. Award – a tag we had for several years while sports editor of this newspaper, as the Ohio Valley Athlete of the Year.
STEPHANIE MORGAN.
The Ohio Valley’s most acclaimed high school female distance runner is changing colleges.
The ex-Barnesville High School state cross country and track distance running champion who earned All-America status will enroll at the University of Illinois after spending her freshman year at Baylor University.
Morgan placed 42nd in the Big 12 Conference cross country meet.
