ATHENS, Ohio – Ohio University (7-0; 3-0 MAC) is ranked No. 25 in the latest Associated Press College Football poll that was released today. The Bobcats’ No. 25 ranking is their first national ranking since 1968.
Ohio moved into the Top 25 in the AP poll after it defeated Akron 34-28 this past Saturday at Peden Stadium. The Bobcats’ 7-0 mark is also their best start to a season since 1968 when the squad opened the year 10-0.
“I couldn’t be happier for our team,” said head coach Frank Solich. “Breaking into the Top 25 is a great accomplishment, but we still have a long ways to go toward accomplishing all the things we set out to do at the start of the season.”
Ohio opened the year by picking up a 24-14 win at Penn State and then reeled off victories over New Mexico State, Marshall, Norfolk State, Massachusetts, Buffalo and Akron.
The Bobcats also received a season-high 54 votes in the USA Today Coaches Poll.
Ohio will have this week off before returning to action on Oct. 27 at Miami for the Battle of the Bricks. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. and can be seen on SportsTime Ohio/ESPN Game Plan/ESPN3.
