West Virginia University will host a number of athletics camps, clinics and sessions starting in mid-June and running throughout the summer months.
Coach Randy Mazey and the Mountaineer baseball team will hold six camps this summer:
Youth Camp, targeted towards kids ages 5-12, from June 22-25 that will help youngsters with baseball fundamentals.
A Pitching/Catching Camp and an Infield/Hitting Camp for players ages 6-18 will be held July 10-11. Participants in the Pitching/Catching Camp will work to improve skills in small, skill-specific environment that includes field drills and live bullpens, while the Infield/Hitting Camp attendees will receive individual instruction based on skill level. Players ages 14-18 are welcome to sign up for one of 40 spots in the
Become A Mountaineer Camp August 9-12, while high school players in graduating classes 2015-18 are welcome to attend a two-day Prospect Camp from August 15-16 to display their skills in front of college coaches. The Mountaineers will also host an overnight Father-Son Camp from July 3-4 for players aged 5-13 at Monongalia County Ballpark, with players receiving skill instruction from the WVU coaching staff as assisted by fathers. Players eighth grade and under will receive a free season ticket for the 2016 baseball season.
The WVU football team will host six camps throughout the month of June and July:
One Day Camps are set for June 14, June 21 and July 25 and are open to grades 9-12, as well as prep and JUCO players. The Mountaineers will offer an Individual Skills Camp June 15-17 for players in grades 4-12, as well as prep and JUCO players. High School teams are invited to the Varsity Team Camp June 23-25 as well as the 7-on-7 Tournament and Big Man Camp June 25-26. A Mini Mountaineer camp for kids ages Pre-K to third grade will be offered June 13 and a Kicking Camp will be held June 15-17 for players in grades 4-12.
Gymnastics will offer a Day Camp geared to children:
Ages 7-11 and USAG levels 1-5 from June 23-25, with two training sessions held daily to help athletes advance to higher USAG levels. The Mountaineers also offer an Overnight Camp June 26-28 that is currently full.
The men’s basketball team will hold five camps for a variety of ages and skill levels:
The Fantasy Camp is set for June 5-7 and includes inclusive all-access to WVU basketball for attendees 21 and over. Teams with players in grades 9-12 are encouraged to sign up for the Team Camp June 19-21 that will consist of two varsity leagues and a junior varsity/freshmen league with a guarantee of five games. Players ages 8-18 can also attend the Individual Camp June 21-24, which also offers a commuter option. The squad is also hosting a sold-out Elite Camp August 1-2 for elite student-athletes looking to showcase their talents in front of the WVU coaching staff.
Head golf coach Sean Covich will host the first-ever Nike Advanced Golf Camp:
July 12-15 at Nemacolin Resort in California, Pennsylvania. Both overnight and day camp options are available, with both camps including golf instruction, green fees and evening activities. The camp will provide aspiring junior golfers with information on tournament preparation, goal setting and time management in a golf-intensive environment.
Men’s soccer will offer a pair of academies this summer:
The first, the Youth Academy, runs June 15-18 for ages 4-12 and will offer small-sided games and a player-centered training approach. The Collegiate Prep Academy for grades 7-12 will take place July 15-18 and will offer a challenging and competitive environment that focuses on attacking and possession-oriented style of play with emphasis on technical proficiency.
First-year volleyball coach Reed Sunahara and staff will hold a number of camps geared towards various volleyball positions and techniques:
The Little Mountaineer Camp for ages 3-10 will take place July 19-21 and will provide essential volleyball skills to help young players start their volleyball career. The staff will offer a Libero Clinic for players of all ages looking to learn the fundamentals of the position, and will likewise offer an Attacking Clinic on July 30 for players of all positions looking to improve their attacking skills. An All Skills Camp will be held July 22-23, offering players in grades 6-12 the chance to work on tactical aspects of the game in a high-intensity training environment. A Team Camp will be held July 24-26 to prepare high school players for the upcoming season, and Serving Clinics are set for July 20 and July 28.
WVU women’s basketball will offer both a day camp and a team camp:
The Day Camp will run June 15-17 for girls grades K-6 and boys ages 5-6 and will focus on basic skill development. The Team Summer Shootout will take place June 26-28 and is open to all high school, middle school and AAU team, with each team guaranteed at least six games in addition to tournament play.
Coach Nikki Izzo-Brown and the WVU women’s soccer staff will hold a trio of camps:
Starting July 13-17 with the Day Camp. The Day Camp will consist of two sections the Mini-Mounty Camp for ages 3-5 and the Junior-Mounty camp for ages 6-12 and will feature an introduction of basic soccer skills. The Team/Residential Camp, which will take place July 18-21, is open to players ages 10-18 and focuses on both technical aspects of the game as well as attacking, defending, and finishing with matches held in the evening. A Summer Elite Camp will be held July 25-26 for student-athletes looking to continue their soccer careers after high school and will cover NCAA requirements, the recruiting process and strength and conditioning among other areas.
The track and field program will host a Cross Country/Track & Field Camp:
June 28 through July 2 for runners in middle school and high school. Attendees will have access to both the indoor and outdoor facility, as well as various trails on campus.
Wrestling coach Sammie Henson and his staff offer a variety of camps for youth wrestlers:
“The Bull” Technique Camp will run from June 14-17 at the WVU wrestling pavilion for wrestlers ages 8-18, who will have the opportunity to learn skills and technique from a trio of current and former World Team members. The Henson Xtreme 30 Camp, also for ages 8-18, is set to run June 14-17 and offers intense workouts with Coach Henson and staff, as well as strength and conditioning. The Henson WVU Team Camp, held June 17-21, is open to youth teams and will consist of three hours of technique work as well as three matches per day. Participants of the Henson Xtreme 30 Camp have the option of a second session (June 17-21) in which they will face off against attendees of the Henson WVU Team Camp.
