CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — The state Supreme Court has taken no immediate action on an appeal petition involving one of the teams in the Class AAA high school football championship game.
The court received additional briefs from an attorney for four South Charleston High School players before a noon Monday deadline.
The Secondary School Activities Commission asked the high court last week to block enforcement of a Kanawha County judge’s rulings that granted eligibility to the players.
The SSAC wants them suspended stemming from a Nov. 19 fight and that South Charleston’s semifinal win over Brooke a week later to be declared a forfeit. That would allow Brooke to play for the title against Martinsburg.
Last Saturday’s title game in Wheeling was postponed due to the legal tangle.
