The article will be a little bit of a recap of Park’s last game verse John Marshall and a preview of tonight’s match up against Musselman. Yes, you heard that correct. The playoff game against Musselman has been moved up a day when both teams mutually agreed to avoid remnants of hurricane Nicole. The game will be played at 7:30pm at Musselman.
A quick review of last week’s match up vs John Marshall is simple. Park opened can of…. Right out of the gate Park poured on the points when Mykel Davis housed the opening kick 99-yards for Park to open up with a 7-0 lead.
Park’s defense then stood strong and forced JM to punt on their opening position. The very first play on offense park again takes it to the house on a Phillips to Will James connection. Taking the lead quickly to 14-0 Park. James had one incredible evening that night with 4 catches for 185 yards and 3 touchdowns on the evening.
Next series seen the same with Park’s defense again forcing a punt. Park’s defense remained stellar the entire evening lead by senior standout Eric Brothers among others. At one point even forcing a safety in the game. Brothers in particular was the heart and soul of the defense that night, performing spins moves, making sacks, and kept the defense motivated. You can hear him on the sidelines keeping the Patriots focused.
John Marshall did put up a fight, but down several starters it was tough sledding on Friday. The sole John Marshall touchdown came from a Jacob Coffield to Aston Collett pass. The JM kicker, Conor Fitzpatrick did add a field goal from 32 yards. He did kick a 42 yarder earlier in the drive that came off the board due to a Park penalty.
Park’s scoring continued through the night seeing Phillips end up with 464 yards and 7 touchdown passes. Park’s standout receiver Jerrae Hawkings contributed with 4 of those catches for 113 yards and a touchdown. Park wide outs Stephens and Lydick also scored a pair of touchdowns as well.
The second half seen a lot from the Patriot’s reserve players still putting on a show with Aiden Davis connecting with Max Reasbeck for a touchdown and Keonte Berisford adding another on the ground. All of this scoring lead Wheeling Park to dominating victory on the night over John Marshall with a score of 70-10.
This wraps up the season for the Monarchs and begins the playoff run for the Patriots as they face the Musselman Applemen tonight, Thursday November 10th in Martinsburg at 7:30.
Park and Musselman did square off a few weeks ago when Musselman were ranked number 1 in the state. That night was homecoming for the hosting Wheeling Park Patriots and saw them put on a show that night as well earning a 34-7 victory over the visiting Applemen.
With Musselmen hosting this time, could that change the end result? We shall see soon enough. If you cannot make the trip out there you can definetly tune in on Park’s radio station 91.9 FM. As well as on…
