In a developing story, WVU has announced they are parting ways with athletic director Shane Lyons. According to sources it was a combination of budget issues and the football teams poor performance. One could draw a conclusion these often go hand in hand. When the football team struggles so does finances. Attendance my dip, booster’s strings get a little tighter, and bowl game payouts can drop from appearing in a “lesser” bowl game. All this can lead to the budget issues. Often times football is the cash cow that supports all the other programs, making it is a huge domino.
One of the most pressing issues with any program is when recruiting starts to become difficult. While WVU did get a nice victory this weekend over Oklahoma, was it enough to shore up potential recruiting problems?
With Lyons firing, eyes now turn to Neal Brown who is 21-24 in the last fours years. If Brown is dismissed after the regular season he still has a buyout close to $17 million.
Look for more on this as the day goes.
