Over the past weekend Ovathletics had the privilege to take a bit of a new adventure and this time travel clear out to West Muskingum High School to cover an Archery tournament. The West Muskingum Holiday Fun Shoot and Food Pantry Tournament was an individual tournament that had a total 48 schools represented. This is the 10th year for this tournament.
Local Archery legend Rick Thomas was on site with all the elementary, middle, and high schools from Ohio County Schools. Wheeling Central, Corpus Christi, Our Lady of Peace, St. Mary’s Central, and St. Michael’s were also on hand. Linsly was the other “local” team that made the trip. Other notable teams were Zanesville. Warren, and even Kanawha County sent a team up from Charleston, WV.
In all told there were nearly 300 shooters in this weekend’s tournament. With Mathew Harper of Maysville High School taking the overall when with an amazing perfect 300 score.
Locals that faired well were Wheeling Park’s Isaiah Braden (284), Ayden Cutlip (275), Mackenzie Scott (263), Annie Criswell, Olivia Braden (259), and Luke Wang (257)
Wheeling Central’s Brandon Miller (265), Mackenzie Looney (260), Anna Hester (257), Anne Nettles (252), Codi Bartsch (251), and Isaiah Crockcard (251)
Linsly’s Jude Veltri (265),
St. Michael’s Levi Anderson (257)
St. Vincent’s Levi Powell (254)
Corpus Christi’s Brighton Seamon (252)
Triadelphia Middle’s Timothy Hall (252)
Stayed tuned to Ovathletics for more Archery coverage in the future. These are skilled athletes that deserve some attention. State tournaments can have hundreds of shooters and the Nationals usually have thousands.
Archery also happens to be a sport where there’s a level playing field for so many kids to compete and be apart of something larger then themselves, but at the same time give them some individual accolades.
A special thank you to Heidi Wagner for organizing and providing us with the information on the tournament. She also wanted to thank all the volunteers that helped make this a very nice tournament for the kids.
