On Saturday St. Clairsville edged out Indian Creek to win the 4A for the OVAC baseball tournament.
Only striking out 5 batters on the day St. Clairsville pitcher Hunter Hoffman relied on the stellar defense behind him to help get the job down and earn themselves a 3-1 victory over Indian Creek.
Scoring a couple early St Clairsville did jumped out to a 2-0 lead. It was in the third where Creek stared to get things going a bit. This where Gavin Pownell managed to get on base with a walk. Then made the most of his opportunity with some smart base running and taking advantage of a St C. error. Creek did manage to put one on the board in the third to now make it 2-1 in the Red Devils favor.
In the fifth inning St. C did manage to get them selves an insurance run when they manufactured a run with a pinch runner, Maddox Trennar. With some base running and sacrifice bunts they moved Trennar to scoring position. Then when a what seemed to be a routine fly ball hit the ground Trennar took advanced of it and the insurance run the Devils needed.
St. Clairsville pitcher Hoffman did warm up as the game went and when it was “go time” Hoffman shined. The last three innings Indian Creek went down in order never really getting anything going. This iced it for the Devils and gave them the 4A championship.
