With all the events around the Valley this past weekend it took us a second to get back around on this one. We were not amiss and were present for this game. In fact, this one went a little later into the night then even we cared for, but some bonus baseball is never a bad thing.
Making the event so much better it was two schools who we love to cover. It was Steubenville Catholic Central vs. River for the OVAC 2A Championship. The weather started out beautiful, but the coolness in the night did creep in. It did not however slow down the bats in this one.
River started the scoring off in the second were they posted a couple runs. Adding another run in the third they quickly made it 3-0. They continued with the lead for some time in the game.
On a misplay at third base Steubenville Central Catholic took advantage to get their first run of the game making the score now 3-1, River.
Later, in the 6th inning River added one more run to now make it 4-1.
However, it was in the bottom of the 6th when Steubenville Catholic Central finally really heated up. Answering the call and taking advantage of a couple near misses on River’s fielding. Steubenville tied up the game at 4-4 by time the inning was over.
The 7th saw little action at least at the plate. The 8th did get a bit interesting when Steubenville loaded the bases, but it was not to be, yet.
It was finally in the 9th where Brayden Rauch hit a single to end this one 5-4 in extra innings to make Steubenville Catholic Central the OVAC 2A Champs.
Winning pitcher for Steubenville was Alex Solema, who’s work in the 9th made the win possible.
RBIs for the Pilots were provided by Lucas Dennis and Brody Lollathin. Carson Makris even managed to drive in a run for the Pilots when he was hit by a pitch.
Steubenville really took advantage of opportunities that presented themselves Friday night and managed to get a great team win with outstanding effort and the never give up attitude. Nice job fellas!
