The Ohio Valley Baseball Coaches Clinic this year will be a dandy. It features Detriot Tigers manager Jim Leyland, former MLB coach Rich Donnelly, and Wheeling Jesuit baseball coach Terry Edwards.
Leyland coached the Florida Marlins to the World Series title in 1997 and was the 2006 American League Manager of the Year, when his Tigers defeated the New York Yankees to win the pennant.
Donnelly was born and raised in Steubenville, Ohio. He has more than 25 years of Major League Baseball coaching experience and was a member of Leyland’s Marlins staff in ’97. Donnelly was an assistant coach for the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 90’s and returned in 2009.
Edwards is in his fourth season as the Head Coach at Wheeling Jesuit University and is well-respected with over 30 years of experience in the high school and college ranks.
This is a great opportunity for our local coaches to learn, speak, and practice with the pro’s.
There will also be a few local coaches volunteering their services.
The Clinic will be held at Wheeling Park High School on Janurary 31 from 1-5pm. The cost is only $40 for advance tickets, and $50 on the day of. For college and High school staffs up to 4, the cost is only $120, and rec league coaches (up to 5) are only $100.
