No. 2 ranked West Virginia University beat the No. 10 Missouri Tigers 68-59 Sunday in a second round game of the 2010 NCAA Basketball Tournament.
Da’Sean Butler had a game-high 28 points, while Devin Ebanks and Kevin Jones combined to score 27 for the Mountaineers.
In the loss, Mizzou’s Michael Dixon scored a team-high 15 points, followed by J.T Tiller with 13.
West Virginia moves on to the Sweet 16 to play the No. 11 Washington Huskies.
Meanwhile, No. 3 ranked Pittsburgh Panthers fell 71-68 to No. 6 seed Xavier Bradley Center to deny the Panthers of their sixth trip to the Sweet 16 in the past nine years.
Ashton Gibbs had a chance to tie the score for Pitt with :02 left on the clock, but his 3-pointer rimmed out. That opportunity came after Dante Jackson missed two free throws with 6.9 seconds remaining.
Pitt had another opportunity with :0.4 left on the clock, but Brad Wanamaker’s 3-pointer also missed.
