PITTSBURGH — Outfielder Xavier Paul cleared outright waivers today and has been unconditionally released.
Paul, 26, was designated for assignment on November 18th to make room on the 40-man roster for Rule 5 eligible prospects. Since Paul was released during this time period he is not eligible to resign with the Pirates until May 16 of next season. He has the right to explore free agency and determine his best fit.
Paul was claimed from the Los Angeles Dodgers and batted .255 with six doubles, five triples, two home runs, 20 RBI and 16 stolen bases over 128 games with Pittsburgh in 2011.
