PRINCETON, W.Va. – West Liberty University sophomore guard Cedric Harris has been honored with a West Virginia Conference Player of the Week Award for the week ending Nov. 27.
A 6-0 point guard from Zanesville, Ohio, Harris poured in a game-high 26 points to help Coach Jim Crutchfield’s two-time defending WVIAC champions post a hard-fought 79-72 victory against perennial conference power Alderson-Broaddus in the Battlers’ own gym.
Harris was 10-for-17 from the floor – including 1-for-2 from behind the 3-point arc – and went 5-for-7 from the charity stripe to account for his 26 points.
The sophomore playmaker alsohanded out 4 assists, grabbed 4 rebounds and came up with one steal in 36 minutes of action as the Hilltoppers strengthened their hold on first place in the conference standings in the early going.
Harris shared WVIAC Player of the Week honors with West Virginia State’s David Ford, who averaged 20.5 points and 10 rebounds in a pair of Yellow Jacket wins.
Harris and his West Liberty teammates return to action Tuesday night with another tough WVIAC road test at Fairmont State. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Joe Retton Arena.
