- Here is a breakdown of how the Pirates players and prospects played in winter ball from November 25-December 2.
Mexican League
Vedados de Mazatlan
- Outfielder Rogelio Noris did not play in any games this week. Noris is batting .188 with three runs, two doubles, one home run, six RBI and two stolen bases over 16 games with Mazatlan.
Venezuelan League
Aguilas del Zulia
- Right-hander Diego Moreno appeared in three games this week with Zulia. Moreno tossed two perfect inning of relief with a strikeout before giving up two runs on three hits over 1.1 innings on Wednesday. It was the first run he’s allowed since October 23rd (seven appearances). Over 13.0 innings in relief, Moreno has allowed five runs on eight hits with three walks and 14 strikeouts.
- Right-hander Julio Vivas is on the roster for Aguilas but has not yet made an appearance.
Caribes de Anzoátegui
- Right-hander Gabriel Alvarado has not yet made an appearance for Anzoátegui.
- Outfielder Gorkys Hernandez played in five games this week for Caribes. He went 2-for-18 (.111 avg) with a run and four strikeouts. In 39 games overall, Hernandez is batting .218 with seven doubles, a triple, 15 runs and eight stolen bases.
- Outfielder Jose Tabata is on the roster for Anzoátegui but has not played in a game yet.
Bravos de Margarita
- Right-hander Anthony Claggett made his first appearance on Wednesday since November 6th. He allowed one run on three hits over one inning of relief. In four starts (six appearances), Claggett is 0-2 with a 6.75 ERA (21.1 innings) with nine walks and eight strikeouts.
- Left-hander Jhonathan Ramos made two appearances this week. He tossed a combined 1.0 inning in relief with no hits and one strikeout. In eight games with the Bravos he’s allowed four hits, two runs, over 5.0 innings with four walks and four strikeouts.
Leones del Caracas
- Right-hander Jose Ascanio made two appearances (one start) this week. On Sunday, Ascanio allowed two runs on three hits over 3.0 innings with two strikeouts. The two runs came from two solo home runs. On Thursday, Ascanio tossed two scoreless innings with a strikeout. In nine games overall, Ascanio has allowed six runs (five earned) on 12 hits over 17.1 innings with two walks and 14 strikeouts.
- Catcher Ramon Cabrera played in three games this week where he went 1-for-5 (.200 avg) with a RBI and a walk. Cabrera is batting .189 over 23 games with the Leones.
- OF Corey Wimberly played in six games this week where he went 6-for-21 (.286 avg) with a run, double, four RBI and two stolen bases. Wimberly is batting .275 over 13 games this season with Caracas.
Navegantes de Magallanes
- Outfielder Jose Osuna is on the roster for the Navegantes but has not yet appeared in a game.
Tiburones de La Guaira
- Right-hander Shairon Martis started in two games this week for the Tiburones. On the 25th, Martis allowed two runs on six hits over 5.1 innings with one walk and five strikeouts. The two earned runs came off of two home runs. On Thursday’s start, Martis allowed four runs (all unearned) on five hits over five innings with one walk and four strikeouts. Martis is 2-2 with a 1.84 ERA over six games (29.1 innings) with 12 walks and 23 strikeouts.
Dominican League
Toros Del Este
- Right-hander Chris Leroux’s solid season in winter ball came to a close after making his final start on November 13th. In five starts overall, Leroux went 1-2 with a 1.14 ERA with five walks and 21 strikeouts. Leroux allowed just three earned runs over 23.2 innings in his first time professionally starting since 2006 when he was with the Florida Marlins organization.
- Left-hander Aaron Thompson’s season came to a close after making his final appearance on November 9. In two starts (four appearances) this season, Thompson went 0-1 with a 6.10 ERA (9.1 innings) with four walks and three strikeouts.
- Right-hander Tim Wood made his final winter ball appearance on November 17th for the Toros. He allowed one run (unearned) on a walk and a strikeout over 1.0 inning of relief. In 11 appearances this season, Wood has allowed 11 runs (nine earned) on 14 hits over 10.2 innings with five walks and nine strikeouts.
- Infielder Pedro Ciriaco played in four games this week for the Toros. Ciriaco went 3-for-14 (.214) with one run, a double and a RBI. Over 16 games this season, Ciriaco is batting .217 with six runs, no walks and 15 strikeouts.
- Shortstop Chase d’Arnaud‘s season with the Toros ended early after suffering a hand injury. In three games, d’Arnaud went 0-for-10 with three strikeouts.
- First baseman Matt Hague played in five games this week. Hague went 3-for-17 (.176 avg) with two runs, a double, two RBI and a walk. In 35 games overall, Hague is batting .282 with two home runs, 15 RBI and 17 walks.
- Third Baseman Andy Vasquez hasn’t played in a game for the Toros since November 4. Vasquez has played in five games with the Toros, three at-bat where he is hitless.
- Right-hander Jose Diaz made three appearances this week for the Toros. On the 26th, Diaz gave up his first earned runs of the season. Three runs scored on two hits and a walk over 0.1 innings. Diaz went 14.1 innings without giving up a run. In Diaz’s two other appearances, he tossed a combined two scoreless frames with one hit and one strikeout. Over 17 appearances, Diaz has a 1.62 ERA with six walks and 13 strikeouts.
Leones del Escogido
- Infielder Andy Marte played in three games this week where he went 1-for-7 at the plate. Marte is batting .206 with two doubles and two RBI over 19 games for Leones.
- Outfielder Starling Marte played in four games this week after being sidelined with a groin injury since November 1st. Marte went 5-for-18 (.277 avg) with three runs, a double, RBI and a stolen base. In 18 games Marte is batting .333 with 13 runs, five doubles, two homers, eight RBI and seven stolen bases.
Estrellas de Oriente
- Catcher Jake Fox played in seven games this week where he went 7-for-25 (.280 avg) with two runs, three doubles, five RBI and three walks. Over 21 games this season, Fox is batting .283 with eight runs, seven doubles and 10 RBI.
Panama
Diablicos de Azuero
- Outfielder Andrew Lambo is playing winter ball in Panama with the Diablicos de Azuero. Over 30 games, Lambo is batting .333, which is fourth in the league, with 19 runs, two homers and 12 walks. He ranks second in doubles (11), first in RBI (29), third in stolen bases (6) and second in hits (39). Lambo was not protected in the Rule 5 draft and could be selected by a different team on the draft this Wednesday.
Puerto Rico
Criollos de Caguas
- Right-hander Nelson Figueroa made his winter ball debut this week, making two starts for the Caguas. On the 25th, Figueroa allowed one run on six hits over five innings with two walks and seven strikeouts. On Wednesday, Figueroa allowed three runs on eight hits and a homer over 7.0 innings with two walks and five strikeouts.
Leones de Ponce
- Infielder Benji Gonzalez appeared in four games this week for Leones. Gonzalez went 0-for-4 at the plate. Over 11 games overall, Gonzalez is batting .188 with two runs and a walk.
Indios de Mayaguez
- Infielder Jeremy Farrell played in four games this week for Indios where he’s gone 1-for-11 (.090 avg) with a double. Farrell is batting .175 over 19 games.
- Infielder Greg Picart is on the roster for Indios but has not yet played in a game.
- Outfielder Adalberto Santos is on the roster for Indios but has not yet played in a game.
Australian League
Adelaide Bite
- Left-hander Rinku Singh made his debut with Adelaide this week, where he made two appearances. He combined to toss 2.1 perfect innings with three strikeouts.
- Right-hander Ryan Beckman made three appearances this week where he allowed just one run (unearned) over 5.0 innings with two hits, a walk and five strikeouts. Overall, Beckman has allowed one earned run on four hits over 9.0 innings with one walk and 11 strikeouts.
- Outfielder Calvin Anderson played in five games this week where he went 3-for-23 (.130 avg) with a run, homer, two RBI and two walks. Over 14 games this season, Anderson is batting .170 with three homers and nine RBI.
- Infielder Stefan Welch is on the roster for Adelaide but has not yet made an appearance.
Canberra Cavalry
- Catcher Travis Scott has played in four games for Canberra where he went 6-for-17 (.353 avg) with five runs, three doubles, three RBI and two walks. Over 14 games, Scott is batting .286 with 12 runs, six doubles and seven RBI.
