The West Virginia Mountaineers were unable to overcome a halftime deficit after trailing 31-39 at the half way mark. Duke beat West Virginia 78-57.
The Mountaineers entered the tournament as a #2 seed after being Big East Champs for the first time in school history with an impressive 31-6 record. This was the first Final 4 appearance for West Virginia in more than 50 years dating back to when the Mountaineers were lead by West Virginia’s own Jerry West in 1959.
Coach Huggins is now 80-30 after 3 years at the helm of the West Virginia mens basketball program. In his first year he coached WVU to a Sweet 16 appearance.
