PITTSBURGH — Baseball America reports that the Pirates have resigned infielder Greg Picart and right-hander Mike Loree to minor league deals.
They also report that they have released the following minor leaguers: right-handers Mitchell Fienemann, Joe Parsons, Jarryd Sullivan and left-hander Diomedes Mateo.
Picart, 26, hit .211 with 14 runs, two doubles, one triple, one homer and 14 RBI over 58 games combined with Triple-A Indianapolis and Double-A Altoona.
Loree, 25, was pitching in Independent ball before signing with the Pirates late in the season. He posted a 1.98 ERA over 24 games (19 starts). Loree appeared in four games with the Double-A Altoona Curve in 2011 where he allowed one run on six hits over 7.2 innings of relief with three walks and 11 strikeouts.
Fienemann, 21, appeared in just 42 games over the last three seasons. He went a combined 5-11 with a 3.73 ERA with the GCL Pirates and State College.
Parsons, 22, posted a 5.33 ERA over 18 relief appearances with the GCL Pirates during the 2011 season.
Sullivan, 21, missed the entire 2011 season. He posted a 4.46 ERA over 38.1 innings combined with the GCL Pirates and State College in 2010.
Mateo, 22, spent the 2011 season with the DSL, GCL and State College Spikes where he posted a 5.19 ERA over 19 appearances (two starts). Mateo missed the 2010 season and appeared in eight innings with the DSL in 2009.
