PITTSBURGH — Pirates veteran lefty Paul Maholm signed a one-year $4.25 M deal with the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday.
Maholm, 29, broke the news of his signing on Monday via twitter saying, “Just wanna say thank u to everyone that has cheered for me during my career as a Pirate. I loved my last six plus years in the city.”
“I hope I get to continue some things when I visit during the year and start some great things as I start my Cubs career.”
The Pirates declined Maholm’s $9.75 million option after going 6-14 with a 3.66 ERA over 26 starts (162.1 innings) in Pittsburgh in 2011. Maholm ended the season on the 60-day disabled list with a left shoulder strain.

He posted a 53-73 record and a 4.36 ERA the parts of seven seasons in the Majors with Pittsburgh. Maholm complied five complete games and three shutouts in his career. For six straight seasons, Maholm made at least 26 starts and pitched at least 160.0 innings. He is the all-time leader in wins (35), innings pitched (621.1) and starts (96) and PNC Park.
