Late Sunday night details were confirmed that the Steelers traded their former Super Bowl MVP to the JETS for a 5th round pick.
At first, I was angry and didn’t understand why we would do something so stupid. But after more thought, its really not that bad of a situation.
Holmes was entering the last year of his contract, and its nearly certain that he was going to want more money than he’s worth. With legal questions looming, the NFL was considering suspending him for the first 4 games of the season, so he wouldn’t have been very productive anyway.
Mike Wallace came on very strong at the end of last season, and the Steelers also resigned former fan favorite Antwaan Randle El a couple weeks ago. The Steelers WR corps is still in pretty solid shape.
My only big gripe right now is that we only got a 5th round pick. If we shopped Holmes around a little bit I’m sure that we could have got better compensated for his value.
