SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – The West Liberty University acrobatics & tumbling team scored a season-high point total in a 260.770-207.795 win over Notre Dame College Thursday night on the road.
Two program records and 10 season-highs were set or tied in the dominating victory.
The Hilltoppers posted 9’s in nine of the 10 heats in the first half to storm ahead 64.85-51.10 and never looked back. West Liberty won all six sevents and outscored the Falcons in 15 of the 18 heats to snap a two-meet skid and improve to 3-4 on the season. Meanwhile, Notre Dame, a first-year program, drops to 0-5.
WLU upped its program-best score in the compulsory pyramid, which got set earlier this season versus Glenville State, with a 9.85. The Black and Gold took that momentum and posted season-bests in the compulsory toss (9.75) and tumbling (8.30) to close out the opening event with a bang.
Two more season-highs were eclipsed and two were tied in the first half. West Liberty scored season-bests in the 7-element acro (9.55) and the inversion pyramid (9.60), then hit their marks in the 6-element acro (9.25) and synchronized pyramid (9.80).
It was more of the same in the second half, as the Hilltoppers continued their roll with three season-highs including the synchronized toss (8.40), duo tumbling (8.50), and 6-element tumbling (9.25). The 6-element score was also a program best mark.
West Liberty finished off the meet with a season-best in team score for good measure with a 90.57, its second straight meet in the 90’s.
The Hilltoppers wrap up their four-meet roadtrip with a visit to Kutztown University next Saturday (March 25) at 2 pm.
