Bethany’s Reece Mabery scored 19 and British Alexander totaled 19 points, 12 rebounds, 5 blocks and 5 steals, as the Bison rallied from a five-point halftime deficit to pull out a 74-67 victory at top-seeded Thiel Saturday night in the PAC Tournament championship game.
The win gave BC its 13th PAC championship, the most in the conference’s history, and an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. It will be the sixth overall NCAA appearance for the Bison and seventh straight postseason trip.
Keying the Bison win was clutch free throw shooting, as Bethany shot 82 percent (27-33) from the foul line, including 20-of-24 in the second half.Mabery was the top producer from the foul line by making 11-of-13 tries, while Alexander was perfect in five trips to the stripe. Meanwhile, the Tomcats shot just 42 percent (8-19) from the charity stripe).
In addition to Mabery and Alexander, sophomore James Barton (Bethel Park, Pa.) netted 14 points, including 12 in the second half on 3-for-3 shooting from the arc and foul line, and sophomore Brady Pacific (Avonmore, Pa./Kiski Area) notched 11 points and handed out three assists.
Bethany will find out their NCAA destination Monday afternoon, and likely begin play next Friday night.
