BETHANY, W.Va. – Sophomore Kyle Arrington (Jackson Twp., Ohio/Jackson) scored five goals and assisted on two others to lead the Bethany College men’s lacrosse team to a 13-6 victory over visiting Ohio Valley University Saturday afternoon at a blustery Bison Stadium.
The win is the first for the Bison as a varsity program and raised their record to 1-4 on the season. Bethany will try to make it two in a row Monday when they its travels to Otterbein (Ohio) College.
The Bison scored the only goal in the first quarter, although Ohio Valley goalie Tyler Ross kept his team in the game with seven saves. Ross would turn aside five BC attempts in the second quarter, but the Green and White did score three times and took a 4-2 lead into halftime.
The Scots scored the opening goal of the third quarter to get within one at 4-3, but Bethany’s offense started clicking and the goals started piling up. After scoring just eight goals in the first four games, the Bison found the back of the net 13 times and amassed 47 shots in pulling away for the 13-6 triumph.
Arrington erupted for seven points in the game with five goals and two assists, which gives him a team-leading eight scores and 10 total points. Freshman Robbie Foster (Greatbridge, Va.) also enjoyed a big game with three goals and solo goals were notched by sophomore Zach Gordon (Leesburg, Va./Heritage) and freshmen Sam Breitenstein (Mohnton, Pa./Gov. Mifflin), Travis Granich (Huntington, W.Va.), Kyle Romanek (Brunswick, Md.) and Brandon Schnupp (Pittsburgh, Pa./Seton-LaSalle).
In addition to Arrington’s two assists, Schnupp and Romanek also posted helpers, as did sophomore John Tritschler (Lower Burrell, Pa./Greensburg Central).
In net, freshman C.J. Studnicky (Severna Park, Md.) made nine saves to pick up his first win.
