CALIFORNIA, Pa. – A limited number of competitors began the season Saturday for the Bethany College outdoor track and field teams, but they produced outstanding efforts at the California (Pa.) University Early Bird Invitational.
Senior Jodi Bodo (Steubenville, Ohio/Steubenville Catholic Central), coming off the best indoor season of her career, continued her momentum by winning the 800 Saturday. She finished in a time of 2:20.23, which was just .04 off her own school record she set in 2007.
There was a school record equaled on the men’s side, as freshman Nathanial Hensh (Uniontown, Pa./Laurel Highlands) cleared 14-0 in the pole vault to finish in second place. Hensh tied one of the oldest school records still remaining in the Bison record books, which was originally set when Dave Douglas cleared 14-0 in 1985.
The only other Bison competitor on Saturday was sophomore Kaitlyn Black (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley). She placed sixth overall in the 200 and crossed seventh in the 400.
Both the Bethany men’s and women’s full teams will be in action next Saturday when they compete at the Wheeling Jesuit Invitaitonal.
