With just one week left in the 2011 season, Pirates Manager Clint Hurdle has mapped out the starting rotation to end the year.
One pitcher who won’t be in the mix is right-hander Jeff Karstens. In his final start of the season on Monday, Karstens held the National League-leading Arizona Diamondbacks to one run (a solo-homer) on five hits over six innings. He walked one and struck out three.
The rotation for the remainder of the season is as follows: right-hander Charlie Morton and Ross Ohlendorf will pitch at Chase Field in Arizona on Tuesday and Wednesday. Left-hander Jeff Locke, and right-handers Brad Lincoln and James McDonald will pitch the last homestand at PNC Park this year on Friday, Saturday and Sunday against Cincinnati. Morton and Ohlendorf will pitch their final games of the season in Milwaukee, with the final game of the year undecided. It could go to either rookie Locke or a spot start for left-handers Brian Burres or Aaron Thompson.
