Conotton Valley 1A Champs
Conotton Valley holds off Frontier to claim their 1A crown on Friday night at Wheeling Park High School. This was Conotton Valley’s third consecutive OVAC 1A title.
Conotton Valley’s pitching was the story here. Masy Baker completely dominated Frontier keeping them scoreless on the day and helping Conotton Valley cruise to an easy 10-0 victory.
Baker also did damage at the plate when she crushed a 3-run homer in the fifth inning contributing to the overall 5 runs Conotton Valley had that inning. Chole Stuber and Maddie Keely also had runs, that inning as well.
This was a truly dominate performance by the Rockets. (This is a summary from a previous article we have posted here).
Shadyside 2A Champs
Shadyside came energized and ready to play verse Wheeling Central. They survived a close one over the Maroon Knights by a score of 6-5.
Brooklyn Edge gets the Maroon Knights on the board first with a homer with one runner on board the bases already, putting them up 2-0.
This wasn’t going to stand for long because Shadyside’s Bella Honeywell hit a monster shot in the 4th with the bases loaded to drive to drive in 2 runners to tie the score at 2-2.
Later in the 6th Shadyside’s Riley Fuller gets a nice hit down the first base line driving in another couple runs.
There was a little more back and forth with runs scored, but it wasn’t enough for the Maroon Knights to close the gap. Making the Tigers 2A champs.
Caldwell 3A Champs
Caldwell survives a Martins Ferry run to win their third OVAC crown in a row. This one started out close and Ferry did make a run, even tying the game at one point.
However, a huge 4th inning blew the lid off this game. It took another couple runs in the fifth to ice this one for Caldwell.
Pretty much everyone scored for Caldwell winning this one 14-3. Their bats really heated up and that was that. This was a great team win for these girls.
Oak Glen 4A Champs
Oak Glen handles Edison with a score of 5-2 making them three-time defending champs of the 4A class. I hope I don’t hurt anyone’s feelings here, but I will say Oak Glen does have my favorite school colors in the Valley. Yes, this is subjective but that baby blue and yellow is fire!
As for the game itself. Oak Glen gets a couple early, but in the fourth Edison does finally strike to give us a score of 2-1.
Then in the 6th Edison gets a solo homer to tie the game at 2.
The Golden Bears get the next three runs to take this one 5-2.
The real story in this game was the pitching of Lizzie Kell. She was outstanding on the day.
Steubenville 5A Champs
Steubenville defeats John Marshall behind some brilliant pitching to take the 5A crown.
The infield play of John Marshall did keep them hanging around, but with the bats not doing their job because of outstanding pitching by Steubenville’s Julian King, it wasn’t enough for the Monarchs to get this one done.
Steubenville wins this one 2-0 with a no hitter by starting pitcher Julian King to be your 5A Champs.
