St. Clairsville ended the best basketball season in their school history yesterday, falling to Elida in the Final 4 of the Ohio State Tournament in front of more than 12,000 fans. Losing by the final score of 61-27, St. Clairsville gained valuable experience on a young team that didn’t start a single senior.
The Columbus Dispatch also recognized the inexperience of playing in a State Tournament by the Red Devils, with an article in this mornings paper saying:
St. Clairsville’s baby-faced players, none taller than 6 feet 3, seemed awed by the surroundings, snapping photos of themselves and visiting with fans.
In contrast, the Dispatch described the Elida team:
Elida, a state semifinalist in football, had the confident look of a champion.
