PITTSBURGH — After getting struck in the chest with a pitch in the 4th inning of Sunday‘s 4-1 loss to the Florida Marlins, catcher Ryan Doumit is back in the lineup tonight for game one of a three game set against the St. Louis Cardinals.
“He took a battery of tests,” Manager Clint Hurdle said. “For whatever reason it caused some temporary complications that we had checked out. All the doctor’s reports that we got back yesterday and the early evening came back negative so he’s fine.”
Pitcher James McDonald said after the game last night that he misread the signs. McDonald thought fastball and Doumit set up for a breaking pitch, which resulted in getting hit in the chest.
Doumit will catch and bat fifth against right-hander Kyle Lohse.
