LATROBE, Pa. – Saint Vincent scored 11 first-period goals and continued to pull away, as the Bearcats improved to 8-2 this season with a 27-2 victory over the Bethany College men’s lacrosse team Wednesday afternoon.
Saint Vincent struck for two goals in the opening minute and posted six inside the first four minutes of the contest, as the home team raced to the 11-0 margin after one quarter. The lead grew to 15-0 with four more SVC scores in the second quarter.
The Bison (1-8) took advantage of an extra-man opportunity to score their first goal midway through the third period. Just 18 seconds after a Bearcat was sent off for slashing, freshman Brandon Schnupp (Pittsburgh, Pa./Seton-LaSalle) scored off an assist from sophomore Kyle Arrington (Jackson Twp., Ohio/Jackson). It was Schnupp’s fourth goal of the season and Arrington’s team-leading fourth assist.
Arrington would also add to his team-high in goals when he scored an unassisted tally early in the fourth quarter, his 11th of the season.
Freshman goalie CJ Studnicky (Severna Park, Md.) stopped 19 shots in the defeat, including nine in the third quarter. Bringing home team-high in ground ball honrs was freshman Corey Doneski (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) with five.
Bethany will stay on the road for its next match-up, travelling to Thiel Saturday for a 1p.m. face off.
