WASHINGTON, Pa. – Washington & Jefferson College junior baseball player Eddie Nogay (Weirton, W. Va./Madonna) was selected as the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Scholar-Athlete of the Month for March.
An English major, Nogay owns a 3.58 grade-point average. He is actively involved with the Student Government Association and Sigma Tau Delta, the College’s English Honorary Society, while serving as the baseball team’s SAAC representative. He is also a student orientation leader on campus.
On the diamond, Nogay is the ace of the Presidents’ pitching staff. He is 5-0 with a team-leading 1.12 earned run average and 27 strikeouts and has been honored with the PAC Pitcher of the Week Award on two occasions this spring.
Entering this week, Nogay was fourth in NCAA Division III in WHIP (0.54), sixth in hits allowed per nine innings (4.15), 14th in earned run average (0.69), 21st in strikeout-to-walk ratio (10.0) and 24th in walks allowed per nine innings (0.69).
During his three-year career with the Presidents, Nogay owns an unblemished 15-0 record in 32 appearances (20 starts) with a career school-record low 2.05 ERA along with 86 strikeouts. He is four victories shy of becoming just the 11th pitcher in Division III history to win 19 consecutive decisions.
Each month the SAAC at PAC member institutions nominate student-athletes for Scholar-Athlete of the Month consideration based on academic and athletic accomplishments. Honorees must be a varsity member in their respective sport(s) and in their junior or senior year. Scholar-Athletes of the Month must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and be actively involved within his or her campus community.
