NHL disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan has nailed another Penguins’ defenseman with a suspension over a body check that occured in Tuesday night’s game against the Blackhawks.
Deryk Engelland will be suspended for three games after he left his feet to crush Marcus Kruger, who had his head down as he was looking for the puck. Shanahan explains in his video that Kruger’s head was the point of contact and the reason he was diagnosed with a concussion after the game. Engelland will be the second Penguins player to receive a suspension this season. Kris Letang received a two game suspension after his boarding penalty against Alexander Burmistrov of the Winnipeg Jets.
The Penguins, expecting Engelland would be suspended, told sources Zybnek Michalek could return to the lineup in tomorrow night’s game against the Jets. Engelland has 10 points (2G, 8A) and 30 penalties minutes in 32 games this season. No word as to whether or not he will appeal the suspension.
