The Rush is on, or should I say Rushel? Yes, THAT Rushel. For some time now, the former PITT running back has been trying to transfer, and has now narrowed it down to two possible choices.
After finally being granted his transfer papers, Shell is now trying to figure out where he should take his talents. Upon leaving PITT, Shell was told he could not transfer to any ACC team, Arizona, or Arizona State. West Virginia was rumored to have been among the list of teams that Shell was not permitted to transfer to.
The first team to come up was UCLA, but it was confirmed that Shell never enrolled at UCLA. After a couple of months, it was reported that Shell was interested in coming back to PITT, but of course that didn’t go well as he was denied.
Now, the All-Time leading rusher in WPIAL history, Shell has now narrowed his sights onto two schools, WVU and Kentucky. A report on CBSsports.com two days ago said that Ohio State was on the list, also, according to his mother. Today, Brett McMurphy of ESPN tweeted that Shell told ESPN that he will decide between WVU and Kentucky after taking visits to each school.
Shell, who has been under immense criticism as of late for this process, would actually fit well at WVU if you think about it. Shell will have to sit out a season due to NCAA regulations so the pick up wouldn’t interfere with the recent transfer of Charles Sims to WVU. Dustin Garrison, Andrew Buie and Dreamious Smith will all be seniors the year that Shell is eligible to play for the Mountaineers. That means Shell will have a chance at the starting job during his junior and senior seasons.
Shell ran for 641 yards and scored four touchdowns last season as a backup to Ray Graham.
This isn’t the end of the “Rushel Shell Saga” as he still needs to visit both schools before making a decision.
