MORGANTOWN, WV – Four Mountaineers from the 2010 WVU football squad were selected, today, in the NFL Draft, held in New York City over the past three days.
Brandon Hogan was picked as the first selection of the fourth round by the Carolina Panthers, Robert Sands was the third selection of the fifth round by the Cincinnati Bengals, J.T. Thomas was the 30th pick of the sixth round by the Chicago Bears and Chris Neild was the 50th pick of the seventh round by the Washington Redskins.
These four players helped lead the Mountaineers to a 38-14 four-year record, a share of two BIG EAST Conference championships, four bowl appearances, including two bowl wins and were ranked among the Top 25 nationally each year.
In 2010, these players were part of one of the top defenses in Mountaineer history, finishing among the top teams nationally in several categories: No. 2 in rushing defense, sacks and defense third-down efficiency, No. 3 in scoring and total defense, No. 11 in pass defense and No. 13 in pass efficiency defense.
The four selections for West Virginia were the most Mountaineers taken in a draft since 2000 when Anthony Becht (1st round – New York Jets), Jerry Porter (2nd round – Oakland Raiders), Barrett Green (2nd round – Detroit Lions) and Marc Bulger (6th round – New Orleans Saints) were all drafted.
