Hicks, who lead West Liberty to a WVIAC Championship in 2000 after throwing 7,254 yards in his career as a Hilltopper is no stranger to the Arena Football league.
After having thrown for 4,496 yards and 79 touchdowns for the Quad City Steamwheelers in 2006, Hicks thought his football career was in the retirement stage after being away from football for several years until the Arena League’s Alabama Vipers called him nearly 2 weeks ago while he was at home babysitting his 3 children.
Friday night, in only his second football game in nearly 3 years, Hicks threw a 23 yard dart to score on the first play from scrimmage for the Vipers. Orlando defeated the Vipers 45-34 with Hicks throwing for 267 yards and 3 touchdowns. Only days ago Hicks got his first start against Jacksonville, in the defeat Hicks threw for 288 yards and 5 touchdowns.
For the season, Hicks has thrown for 555 yards and 8 touchdowns in only 2 games for Alabama. The Vipers take the field again on July 17th against the Tulsa Talons.
