UPDATE: 7/26 – 4:00pm Jason Grilli has been diagnosed by Dr. James Andrews with a flexor strain in his right arm. This injury will not require surgery, although it will require about two weeks worth of rest before being reevaluated. If that goes well then Grilli will be allowed to start a throwing program and begin his rehab. He will not be expected back until late August at the earliest. His exact timetable to return will be revealed after he is reevaluated.
UPDATE: 7/23 – 1:42am
Jason Grilli left last night’s game against the Nationals in the ninth inning due to “right forearm discomfort”. He had given up 2 earned runs in 2/3rd of an inning in the game before leaving after striking out Wilson Ramos.
The Pirates have said that he will be re-evaluated on Tuesday. He will also likely have an MRI done to see if any damage was done.
Grilli sent a message to Pirate fans via Twitter early Tuesday morning:
Minor setback tonight. Thx for thoughts & prayers from everyone. I will be back ASAP for my teammates & the Burgh. #adversityismymiddlename
