Herd That will be going to Philadelphia to play in the semi-finals of the TBT. They are two wins away from bringing home the $1,000,000 prize. Boeheim’s Army stood in Herd That’s way today at Wesbanco Arena in Wheeling.
Boeheim’s Army has been a slow starting team so far this tournament. After their slow starts, though, they were able to take leads and not look back. Today, Herd That, again wouldn’t go away as has been the case in their previous matchups.
As the first quarter ended Boeheim’s Army held an 18-15 lead. This was different than their previous games where the Army was always trying to dig themselves out of a hole. The second quarter was much of the same as the first with Herd That always coming up with a big basket or defensive stop when it looked like Boeheim’s Army had a run in them. At the half Boeheim’s Army held a 38-33 lead.
Herd That came out hot, I mean hot hot, I mean hot hot hot in the 3rd quarter. They started the second half started with a 19-2 run that put them up 52-40 midway through the 3rd quarter. Jon Elmore was hitting from everywhere; at one point I think he put one in from Independence Hall. He finished with 17 points (5-9 3 pointers), 7 rebounds, and 7 assists. Not to be outdone, teammate Taevion Kinsey put in a couple 3 bombs as well and contributed with 15 points, 2 boards, and 2 assists.
After it was all said and done Herd That started the 3rd period down 38-33, they ended the period up by 16, 67-51. The script was flipped on Boeheim’s Army as they are the team that has been taking big leads in the second halves.
As the Elam ending approached Herd That kept getting bucket after bucket and stop after stop on the defensive end. The target score was set at 88 with Herd That leading 80-64. After a couple Boeheim’s Army baskets and some missed shots Herd That took a timeout to settle the team down and to discuss putting the game away. The move worked, as it did not take long for Herd That to get to 88 and the victory. Herd That moves on to the City of Brotherly Love with the 88-71 victory. The semifinal contest will be on Wednesday August 2nd at 7 pm, if you cannot get to Philadelphia watch on the ESPN family of networks.
Along with Elmore and Kinsey, Robert Gray was an unstoppable force, leaving defenders in his wake as he drove to the hoop with finesse and precision. His scoring prowess was on full display as he racked up an astounding 20 points, making crucial baskets at critical moments in the game. Gray’s shooting was as sharp as ever, hitting shots from all over the court and proving to be a thorn in the side of the opposing defense. Beyond his scoring abilities, he showcased his versatility by pulling down 8 rebounds and dishing out 2 assists, demonstrating his prowess as a well-rounded player.
Jacorey Williams’ skills were also on display today as he pumped in 16 points with a variety of moves in the paint. His length was seen on the defensive side as well in protecting the lane.
Good luck to Herd That in Philadelphia.
