WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty wrestling team bounced back from a slow start and pulled away to a 32-13 victory against Ohio Valley in a dual meet at the ASRC.
Coach Brian Davis’s Hilltoppers found themselves on the short end of a 13-6 score after the first four matches but that’s when the hosts slammed the door.
Andy Church stopped the bleeding for West Liberty with an 8-6 decision at 157 pounds and 165-pounder Jarrod Shaw put the Hilltoppers ahead to stay with a first-period fall against Kenneth Richards.
Matt Littleton kept things rolling with a technical fall at 174 with decisions by 184-pounder Derrick Williams and 285-pounder J.D. Ramsey wrapped around a Mitch Knapp forfeit at 197 to conclude the scoring.
The West Liberty mat squad hits the road Friday night for a 7 p.m. match at Mercyhurst and will remain in Erie, Pa. overnight for a 3 p.m. dual meet at Gannon on Saturday.
