On Thursday, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) announced the recipients of the 2011 Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II All-Region teams. This year’s teams are comprised of 206 student-athletes from 107 institutions within the eight NFCA regions.
Wheeling Jesuit freshman, Jarah Ice, earned second team All-Atlantic Region honors and was one of seven WVIAC athletes to receive a mention by the NFCA – Kashilia Young (WVWC), Nicole Pitcock (SU) earned first team honors while Hillary Perez-Ashley (WVWC), Stephanie St. Peter (WVWC), Dana Goguen (WVWC), Brittany Hyatt (WVSU), and Jarah Ice (WJU) garnered second team honors.
Ice was selected to the All-Region team as a non-pitching utility player. The freshman from Anderson, Indiana started all 41 games, appearing in four different positions, mostly as a catcher, 23 games. Ice made 11 starts at third base, six at shortstop, and one in center field.
The Highland High School (IN) standout landed in the top five of eight offensive categories for WJU. She finished second in hits with 44 and boasted a third-best .326 batting average while maintaining a .364 on-base percentage (5th).
Ice led the team in triples (2) and a stolen bases (8) with 25 runs scored (2nd). She touched 57 total bases (3rd) and earned eight free passes (3rd). In addition, Ice recorded 13 RBI, three doubles, and two homeruns.
The Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-Region Teams are selected by NFCA member coaches from eight regions. First and second team recipients are eligible for All-American honors which consist of three teams.
The University’s 19 men and women’s NCAA Division II athletic teams have won 59 West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championships and boast 40-plus Academic All-Americans. Student athletes at Wheeling Jesuit carried a cumulative 3.1 GPA in 2010.
