LATROBE, Pa – The Bethany College women’s basketball team dropped its regular season finale Saturday at Saint Vincent to head into the PAC Tournament with a 15-10 overall record and an 11-7 mark in the PAC.
With the 103-50 victory over the Bison, Saint Vincent (20-5, 15-3) clinched the #2 seed in next week’s PAC Tournament.
Bethany was on fire from the arc in the early stages of the contest. Senior Renee Shepherd (New Martinsville, W.Va./Magnolia) cashed in a triple to open the game and then treys from senior Katelynn Hackathorn (Valley Grove, W.Va./Wheeling Park) and Shepherd pushed BC out to a 15-12 lead with 13:28 left in the first half.
From that point on, it was all Bearcats. Saint Vincent forced 17 Bethany turnovers over those final 13 minutes and outscored BC 41-11 the rest of the half to take a 53-26 lead into the intermission. For the half, the Bison committed 21 turnovers, which were converted into 28 SVC points.
The second half would also belong to the Bearcats, who shot 43 percent after halftime and hit seven three-pointers. After hitting 6-of-10 from the arc in the opening stanza, the Bison went cold in the second half, making just 29 percent from the floor, including 2-of-13 from three-point land, as Saint Vincent pulled away for the big win.
Shepherd finished as the top scorer for the Green and White, dropping in 13, while senior Anne Wilson (Saegertown, Pa./Cambridge Springs) notched 10.
For the Bearcats, Emily Fenton finished with 24 and Brittany Sedlock totaled 20 to lead 10 scorers.
With the regular season behind them, the Bison will now focus on their opening round game of the PAC Tournament Tuesday. The fourth seed, Bethany will host #5 Westminster in a quarterfinal match-up at 6 p.m.
