The other game, besides the Steubenville Catholic Central win, that we need to circle back to is of course the Linsly victory Friday night. Linsly took on Fort Frye for the OVAC 3A championship.
We have to talk about the Edison Unified Sports Complex for just a second here. We didn’t mention it much in the Steubenville Catholic Central article, but it is something the community of Edison should be very proud of. These facilities are immaculate. Both games benefited from an outstanding playing surface. The fans were treated to amazing ballparks that were absolutely worthy of host a tournament such as the OVAC’s. Look for a future article form us on just how great these facilities really are.
As for the game itself it was a game worth watching with plenty of excitement. Linsly just hit the ball really well on the day. Scoring a couple runs in each of the first four innings except the first. Adding 3 more in the seventh and that proved just too much for Fort Frye to overcome.
Fort Frye didn’t give up the ship and tried to rally, but only managed 4 runs on the day handing the victory to the Cadets 9-4.
Fort Frye’s runs came from compliments of Layton getting one in the third and one in the seventh. Lowe added one in the fourth as well as Brooker.
Linsly’s runs came off efforts by Lee Paull and Jax Murray scoring in the second inning for the Cadets.
Trey Prather and Andrew Skadra put two more on the board in the third, including a homer by Prather.
In the fourth, it was Matt Scouvart and Alex Taylor adding a couple more.
Then finally in the ninth: Prather, Skadra, and Murray all scored again to give the cadets the victory and the 3A OVAC Championship.
The wining pitcher on the game was Alex Taylor, who was also the team’s MVP. This makes Linsly 23rd OVAC title in baseball.
