After their crucial win Saturday over the Cincinnati Bearcats, West Virginia put themselves right back in the hunt for the Big East championship. The Big East Conference recognized Julian Miller and Eain Smith for their work this past week.
Big East Defensive Player of the Week – Miller, a senior defensive tackle, posted seven tackles, a pass breakup and a fumble recovery in the endzone for a touchdown after Bruce Irvin forced Cincinnati quarterback Zach Collaros to fumble. Miller leads all active BIG EAST players in career sacks (23.5) and tackles for loss (36.5).
Big East Special Teams Player of the Week – In what has been a dreadful year as a whole for the Mountaineer special teams unit, Smith made fans forget about much of that with his big play Saturday to seal the game. The senior defensive back had four tackles, but made the play of the game on special teams when he blocked the attempted tying field goal try by Cincinnati as time expired.
