WHEELING – Brendan Connolly scored twice to help lead the Greenville Road Warriors to a 4-2 victory over the Wheeling Nailers at WesBanco Arena Sunday night.
The Nailers scored the lone goal in the first period on the power play. Sebastien Bisaillon moved the puck from the point to the circle, and fired a wrist shot past Greenville goaltender Nic Riopel to give the Nailers a 1-0 lead at the end of the first.
Greenville outshot the Nailers 14-5 in the second period. However despite the barrage of shots, Wheeling goaltender Patrick Killeen stopped them all to preserve the Nailers 1-0 lead at the end of two.
The Road Warriors stormed out the gates in the third, receiving goals from Sean Berkstresser, Brendan Connolly, and Mark Voakes in the first 4:09 of the third period to grab a quick 3-1 lead. The Nailers pulled the goaltender late to allow for the extra attacker, but Connolly added an empty net goal to lift Greenville to a 4-1 lead with 40 seconds remaining. Doug Rogers added another goal for the Nailers 14 seconds later, but it would be not be enough as the Road Warriors earned the 4-2 victory.
Goaltender Peter Delmas was recalled to the Hamilton Bulldogs of the American Hockey League prior to Sunday’s game.
On Wednesday the Nailers travel to Elmira to take on the Jackals beginning at 7:00 p.m.
