The four-day OVAC tennis tournament wrapped on a couple beautiful days down at John Marshall High School yesterday.
Day 1 saw frigid temperature as the Boys’ Doubles began the tournament. Both Linsly and Morgantown made their presence known early on. The number 1 brackets had Linsly’s team of Aranguren and Consuerga beat out Morgantown’s Phillips-Hatley and hall team by a score of 9-7.
The number 2 bracket had again Linsly and Morgantown facing off. Linsly’s Hoang and Guzzo edged out Morgantown again, but a little closer at 9-8 this time. Morgantown’s Abbitt and tian made this one a real fun match to watch. With plenty of back and forth play.
The number 3 bracket, as you may guess was again Linsly and Morgantown. This time however it was Morgantown’s Chen and Chinn-Kreiner making quick work of the Linsly team of Palmer and Mihajlovie 8-1.
Day 2, and still cold, had boy’s singles in action. Care to guess who dominated the field again? Of course, it was Linsly and Morgantown. The number 1 bracket had Linsly’s Pablo Aranguren and a decisive 8-4 win over Morgantown’s Bennett Hall.
The number 2 bracket had Morgantown’s Bennett Hall defeating Diego Consurgra 8-0.
Bracket 3 of the boys’ singles was a close one when Linsly’s Matteo Guzzo edged out Morgantown’s Max Chen in an 8-6 stunner.
Day 3 had the girls finally take to the court, on thankfully a much nicer weather day, for the girl’s doubles. Bracket 1 had the Byers sisters from University beat out Maya and Sam 8-2.
Bracket 2 again had University claim victory. This time it was the combo of Rusiecki and Takas. They defeated Chada and Carver with yet another 8-2 victory.
Bracket 3 is when Morgantown’s girls make an appearance. Their team of Forman and Lu handle Rosenthal and Robinson with an 8-1 win.
Day 4 and I’m so happy to report a very pleasant weather day. Trust me, if you were there you would care too. Wrapping up the OVAC tournament, the girls’ singles were in action. The number 1 bracket had University’s Lyla Byers win with an 8-3 victory over Madeline Bradshaw.
Bracket 2 had Morgantown’s Sam Carver edging out Emma Rusiecki 8-4.
Bracket 3 was Linsly’s Ava Barlett getting an 8-5 win verse Morgantown’s Anika Chaha.
