The Pirates dropped the third game of a four game series with the Cincinnati Reds. The 4-0 loss, was a mainly a product of no offense, however starter Ross Ohlendorf is going to take his share of the blame in the loss as well.
Ross Ohlendorf got the start today and was had an alright day. Ohlendorf allowed eight hits and three earned runs, but spread them out the run over his six innings of pitching, which was the one positive on his day. Unfortunately for him, he hasnt won a game this season, including spring training.
But the Pirates missed a lot of late scoring opportunities, as their offense was missing in action tonight. The Pirates accumulated a total of six hits as a team and rarely even put themselves in scoring position to even put a chip in the lead. The most impressive innings the Pirates had were in the fifth and eight innings. The Pirates would load the bases with two outs in both innings, but would not be able to come away with a single run.
The one bright spot on the night was Neal Walker, who was outstanding behind the plate going two for four his appearances. The most impressive of his at bats came in the sixth inning when he singled to right to put men on first and second with no outs. Though that inning would be cut short by a double play, Walker gave the Pirates their best start to an inning all night. While Walker still has a lot to prove, he is making a good impression so far.
The Pirates will be looking to split the four game series with a win Thursday evening.
