When the Buckeyes take the field on Saturday, it will usher in a new era of Ohio State football. With Urban Meyer at the helm and a coaching staff filled with new faces, fans clamor to see what all the changes will mean for the team.
After a 2011 campaign that seemed like a nightmare, Ohio State is eager to move forward. With strong leadership from players like John Simon and Zach Boren, they want to show what the new era of Ohio State football will bring.
The changes made during the off-season are evident. The players are slimmer, quicker and stronger. The attitudes have also changed.
As with all things, attitude will be the prevailing force that will direct this season. While the players are saying all the right things, buying into their coaches’ instructions and working hard to improve, Saturday will give us the first chance to see if they can perform when it counts.
On Saturday, fans will see a new offense. One that is high tempo and fans hope well executed. Additionally, there will be freshmen receiving their first taste of what’s like to play in the Shoe’.
Saturday begins what promises to be an exciting era in Buckeye football. Although national and conference titles are out of reach thanks to sanctions, the Buckeyes can accomplish much this season. Their primary goal, as stated by Urban when he addressed fans, is to make the state of Ohio proud of this team.
There is also much at stake for the seniors, as this season will define their legacy. For them, this is an opportunity to put their stamp on the program so future generations can follow their example.
This season also serves as a building block to the future. It’s this year Buckeye Nation will see the foundations built for what should be a promising future. Urban has improved programs dramatically during his first season as head coach, so logic dictates the same should apply in Columbus.
Ultimately, there is much excitement in the air and rightly so, as Saturday begins a new chapter in Ohio State football. With a new offense, an improved attitude and a buzz around the program, it should be interesting to see their transformation this year. That transformation begins this Saturday.
