From the first play, Ohio State came out and dictated the game. By the time Colorado recovered, it was 17-0. The Buckeyes took it to the Buffaloes en route to a 37-17 win.
In his first start, Braxton Miller injected new life into the offense.
Miller seems a natural fit as Ohio State’s quarterback. His running ability adds another dimension to their offense, which in turn opens up other areas of the game. Braxton did a great job managing the game. He made big plays with his arm and on the run. Miller went on to throw for two touchdowns in his first start and as a result, the offense has new life.
This was a pivotal game for the offense, as they needed to find momentum before conference play begins.
Now granted Colorado didn’t provide much fight, so it’s hard to tell how effective Ohio State’s offense can be. Still, the fact they were able to make big plays and put points on the scoreboard is extremely important for this unit. The experience provides them with confidence they can build on and for a young team that mentality is everything.
On defense, the Buckeyes looked much better.
The Silver Bullets looked more like the Buckeyes of old. They gang tackled, played good coverage and put pressure on the quarterback. They still need to play a more complete game as they did give up plays later in the game. That said this was a big improvement over their play from last week.
Overall, it was a great performance, which should provide this team with some much-needed confidence.
The Buckeyes have a week to prepare for what should be a great conference opener. Michigan State comes to town on Saturday in what begins a stretch that could define Ohio State’s season. If they can continue to build on this past week, they have a chance at starting their conference play with a win.
